William & Evelyn
future homeowners
William and his wife, Evelyn, share a small 2-bedroom apartment in Delaware County with their 4 children and dream of purchasing an affordable home with enough space for everyone. William is an armed forces veteran who works as a trainer at a local distribution center, where he creates a friendly and welcoming environment for new employees and teaches them how to perform their core job functions. Evelyn stays busy raising the couple’s young children and volunteering extensively at their church’s children’s ministry.
As a family, they enjoy attending church and fellowshipping, going on spontaneous day trips, going to the park, and having family movie nights. “Owning a home with more space while at the same time being able to save money and not having to live paycheck to paycheck would absolutely be a dream come true,” explained William.
Although William works full-time, the family can’t afford to purchase a home in Delaware County. “As a father and a husband, I long to be a great provider and to give my children things they desire and provide my wife a home to call hers,” he said. “Owning a home will make us extremely happy because it’s what Evelyn and I have been dreaming about for years.”
William & Evelyn learned about the Habitat homebuyer program through one of our social media posts and decided to explore it. “We decided to apply through faith that the Lord had bigger blessings in store for us,” William said. “When we learned that we were accepted into the homebuyer program, we were so shocked that it felt like a dream. We are looking forward to campfires in the backyard and having enough space to host gatherings.”
As part of Habitat’s homeownership program, William & Evelyn are now working their way toward completing 300 hours of sweat equity. “We look forward to working with other volunteers because they do this out of the kindness of their hearts. We are also excited to learn how to maintain and fix problems ourselves as they arise in our new home,” said William.
