Adrianna
future homeowner
Adrianna is a single mother who aspires to own an affordable home in Delaware where she can raise her young son. “Stability is so important to me, and owning an affordable home will allow my son to thrive in his home, school, and social life” explained Adrianna. In their spare time, the pair enjoy doing arts & crafts and finding new parks to visit together.
Working from home as a senior fraud specialist allows Adrianna the flexibility that she needs to be able to raise her child on her own. Although Adrianna works full-time with her current company and runs a side business selling handmade jewelry and candles, she is unable to afford her current apartment. Spending over half her take home pay on rent, Adrianna is cost-burdened and is unable to afford daycare for her son, save for his college, or save for a down payment to buy a home.
“Finding an affordable and safe place to live has been a goal of mine,” Adrianna explained. “I have actively been looking for homeownership programs the last few years. I explored all other resources and we could not even afford an FHA or USDA mortgage with the interest rates.”
Adrianna recently discovered the Habitat homeownership program and decided to apply. “Having our own affordable home will give my son the chance to go to daycare and a safe school while allowing us more financial freedom to save money,” said Adrianna. Adrianna was overjoyed upon learning of her acceptance into the Habitat homeownership program. “Owning a home, our own home, where my son won’t have to keep moving, means the world to us,” Adrianna said.
As part of Habitat’s homeownership program, Adrianna is now working her way toward completing 300 hours of sweat equity. “I am excited about how much I will be learning during my 300 volunteer hours to expand my knowledge so that I can save money by doing minor home repairs myself.”
