Habitat for Humanity of Delaware & Union Counties welcomes Zainab and her children into our Homeownership Program!

Future Habitat homeowner Zainab and her two children

Future Habitat homeowner Zainab and her two children

My Habitat home will mean safety, peace of mind, and show my kids the value of hard work.
— Zainab

Zainab and her two children currently live in Delaware, and have been dreaming of owning an affordable home of their own.

“We have been renting a very expensive two-bedroom apartment, and my son and I share a bedroom…which he is not very happy about,” Zainab explained, “There is also a lot of turnover of new neighbors in our area, and there are a lot of people coming and going. I worry for the safety of my children.”

Zainab works as a language arts teacher, and loves teaching her students and helping them grow. “The parents’ feedback on my work means everything to me, and makes me feel so appreciated. This work gives me purpose. I am not just teaching my students different languages, but also important life skills that they will use forever. I know that I am making a huge difference in their lives.”

For Zainab, a Habitat home will be an affordable investment in her future, and will allow her to save for college for her two children. “Right now, almost all of my paycheck goes towards rent, and it makes it nearly impossible to save for the future.”

When my family and I heard that we were accepted into the Habitat homeownership program, we felt like birds flying in the sky! This home will be our nest to come home to. This opportunity will change our lives!
— Zainab

Zainab is eager to get started working towards her 300 sweat equity hours required in the Habitat homeownership program. “My daughter is so excited that she asked if she could attend my first homeowner workshop with me. We can’t wait to build and purchase a new home that will be affordable for us with plenty of space!”

We need your support to help Zainab realize her dream of homeownership.
