Habitat for Humanity of Delaware & Union Counties welcomes Barbra and her son into our Homeownership Program!
"All of this is for my son. Habitat has given me the opportunity to provide a home for him to grow up in."
Barbra and her son live in Delaware in the home that she grew up in with her large family. "There are sixteen of us currently living in my mother's three-bedroom home. There isn't any space for my son to move around, play and grow in the house."
Barbra came to Habitat for Humanity because she wanted a better living situation for her and her son but, like many single parents, was unable to afford an apartment in Delaware. "I was very close to renting a small one-bedroom apartment, but I knew that it would only help us temporarily and that it wasn't what we needed."
Barbra works full-time as a caregiver for clients in the Delaware community who have disabilities that prevent them from living independently. She has worked in this capacity for over two years and, although it is challenging, she loves her job and loves the people that she cares for.
Barbra will be required to complete 300 hours of sweat equity in the Habitat homeownership program prior to purchasing a home. We hope to start construction on a 3-bedroom home for Barbra and her son in the fall of 2018 and complete it in the spring of' 19. When the home is completed, it will be sold to Barbra at fair-market value with an affordable, zero-interest mortgage.
Partner with Barbra to help her realize her dream of homeownership by making a financial contribution or volunteering alongside her on the job site. Together, we can build strong foundations ... one home at a time.
