A Brush With Kindness

Zelda McDaniel

Habitat for Humanity of Delaware & Union Counties is excited to have completed A Brush With Kindness alongside Zelda at her home in Powell. We poured a new gravel driveway, constructed flower beds, and revamped her existing deck with stairs, railings, and a skirt around the lower half of the deck. Zelda grew up in this home, it was built in 1957 and her parents lived in it until she moved in. "I moved out when I was 18 years old and thought I would never come back, but I moved back in at 57 years old and have been making it mine ever since." We asked her what it meant to her for HFHDUC to help her maintain and keep her home safe for her to continue living in, "It has been a big help to make my home neater, cleaner, and safer. I didn't realize how dangerous it was, and I look forward to being able to get around the outside of my home better." Zelda complimented our program by mentioning how helpful our volunteers are, and mentioned that one volunteer even gave her great gardening tips! "The title of the program, A Brush With Kindness, is a great title. This is not something that should be passed up, it's amazing how a little extra can go a long way!" We are extremely happy to help Zelda feel happy and safe within her home, and we hope she will continue her family legacy there!
